Vitamin C is a key antioxidant and cofactor that influences the growth, function and maintenance of various cell types in the body. Throughout hundreds of years, vitamin C has been recognised as an effective scurvy prevention. More recent vitamin C research has gone beyond scurvy prevention, revealing encouraging evidence for various health benefits and clinical uses. Vitamin C helps to activate enzymes, reduce oxidative stress and boost immunological function. There is substantial evidence that vitamin C protects against respiratory tract infections and lowers the risk of cardiovascular disease and certain malignancies. Current experiments are looking on the effectiveness of intravenous vitamin C as cancer treatment. It will also emphasise the significance of vitamin C as a potent bioactive compound and its application in the prevention and treatment of various chronic diseases. This review is required to emphasise the significance of alternative healthcare practices in both preventative and therapeutic settings. Vitamin C was chosen as a symbol of this notion because of its high antioxidant capability, profound physiological consequences and low risk of adverse effects.
